Anti-Racism Resources
The Black Lives Matter movement is a political and social movement advocating for non-violent civil disobedience in protest against incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against black people and people of colour.
It was founded in 2013 by Alicia Garza (UCSD alumna), Patrisse Cullors (UCLA alumna) and Opal Tometi.
In 2020, the movement gained further momentum by the exposing of killings of black women and men, including George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.
The University of California Trust and UC Alumni UK stand in solidarity with this movement, to expose structural racial inequity and to promote equality for all POC and LGBTQ individuals in all aspects of our work, lives and community.
We are working on creating ways in which we can do this. We believe the power of education helps individuals become more open-minded individuals, empathetic and able to understand the struggles of others. To overcome brutality and racially motivated violent against people of colour we need to listen and learn from those who have experienced it first-hand. So below, we have offered a list of anti-racism resources and recommendations from a variety of sources.
We encourage you to remain open-minded, empathetic and to learn with us.
If you have any suggestions or recommendations to add to this list, please feel free to email us.
