The University of California constantly strives to serve society through its research and public service initiatives. These programs not only benefit those who learn and serve at UC campuses, but provide vital contributions to local and global communities within education, medicine, technology, and more. Here are some of the many initiatives you can support at the UC campuses!

On this page, you will find a selection of campus initiatives we have chosen to highlight quarterly.

Covid-19 funds at the UC campuses

In 2020, the world was impacted by the appearance of Sar-Cov-2. The virus has caused a respiratory-like disease and infected more than 14.5 million people worldwide and sadly, taken the lives of over 600,000 people around the world (as reported by the World Health Organization as of July 2020).

Many countries saw lockdowns that affected jobs, travel, and education.

The University of California, along with many other research institutions, initiated funds designed to address a few areas:
  • To help provide PPE, medical supplies and care to California communities
  • To lead on the research and design of a vaccine to prevent Covid

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion funds at the UC campuses

Spurred by the increased attention towards cases of police brutality in the United States, social justice movements such as 'Black Lives Matter' expanded, highlighting the need for immediate institutional and legal reform. Protests and grassroots organisations brought the deeply entrenched issues of racial inequality to the forefront of political discourse.

Many organizations, including the University of California, continue to establish and review anti-racist policies to better achieve racial equity. UC campuses have established intiatives to achieve the following:

  • Support people of color through scholarships and other opportunities
  • Conduct research and increase education on issues that disproportionately affect marginalized communities
  • Promoting activites, projects, and events which are diverse, equitable, and inclusive
  • Improving the presence and experience of black faculty and staff
